Become an operator in training
In Ontario, anyone working in a regulated drinking water or wastewater system must hold a valid operator certificate. There are two main operator categories at Niagara Region. Certified operators handle operational checks, adjust and test processes, and control water or wastewater flow, pressure and quality.
Drinking water operators
Manage water treatment, distribution, or both.
Wastewater operators
Oversee wastewater treatment or collection facilities.
Requirements to become an operator
- Class G driver's licence
- Operator in Training licences (four exams)
- An environmental or lab diploma is considered an asset, but is not a mandatory requirement
