Swearing affidavits

An affidavit is a signed declaration that certain information is true. They are generally used to establish legal rights. Common uses include confirming a person's identity, motor vehicle ownership or common-law partnership status.

A Commissioner for Taking Affidavits is a person authorized to witness your signature and administer your oath or solemn affirmation. They certify that the oath was properly taken — not that the statements in the document are true.

  • The completed form filled out, but not yet signed
  • Photo identification, such as a driver's licence, passport or photo health card

Notary services

We don't offer notary services.

If your document must be signed by a Notary Public, contact a local notary or lawyer. Notaries have broader authority than Commissioners as they can certify copies of documents and notarize documents for international use.
