Notice of construction for Quaker Road sanitary sewer upgrade in Welland and Pelham

Niagara Region will be constructing a new sanitary trunk sewer along Quaker Road between Pelham Street and Rice Road in Welland and Pelham. The new 600 millimetre sanitary trunk sewer is a long-term system improvement. It will provide sanitary sewer relief along Quaker Road connecting the Pelham Street Regional sanitary sewer to the outlet sewer east of Rice Road. This will support existing and future sanitary flows associated with growth.

The project runs just over 1.2 kilometres. Construction is scheduled from January to May 2024. Construction will start at the intersection of Rice Road and Quaker Road and will move west.

The following improvements will be included as part of this project:

Welland
  • Replacement and realignment to parts of the local sanitary sewer (areas impacted by the installation of the trunk sewer)
  • Watermain replacement

Pelham
  • Local sanitary sewer replacement, which will also service new developments along the corridor
  • Watermain replacement
  • Corridor urbanization including storm sewers, curb and gutter, sidewalks and bike lanes
