Community Energy Plan

In development

A roadmap to understand how energy is used across Niagara and build a more sustainable, resilient energy system.

About the plan

The plan will look at energy use across Niagara's major sectors — residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, transportation and municipal operations. It will identify opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency, support economic prosperity and ensure long-term environmental sustainability.

Public participation

Community input is an important part of the Community Energy Plan. Residents and organizations will have opportunities to learn about the project and share their feedback at key stages, including through the public survey.

An online public survey will launch after the baseline energy study is complete, and will gather input on:

  • Awareness and understanding of energy use and climate change
  • Community values and priorities related to energy and emissions reduction
  • Barriers to taking part in energy transition efforts
  • Factors that may influence support for future actions

Project support

Niagara Region acknowledges funding support from the Province of Ontario through the Ministry of Energy and Mines' Municipal Energy Plan Program, and additional funding support from Enbridge through the Municipal Energy Plan Offer.
