About the project

The Niagara Street bridge in Welland carries vehicular and pedestrian traffic along Niagara Street (Regional Road 50) over the Welland River.

This project includes:

  • Replacing the Niagara Street Bridge
  • Reconstructing the road between Riverbank Street and West Main Street
  • A new water transmission main from Riverbank Street to Mill Street
  • A new watermain and sanitary sewer from West Main Street to Mill Street

The project includes the following active transportation improvements:

  • 1.8-metre sidewalks on both sides of the bridge
  • Extending the southbound bike lane from Riverbank Street to Bald Street to connect to the existing bike network
  • Extending the northbound bike lane from Riverbank Street to Mill Street

On-street parking on the northbound side of the road from Mill Street to West Main Street will remain.
