Notice of demolition: 68 Church St. building in St. Catharines (former Niagara Regional Police Service 1 District building)
Niagara Region is demolishing the 68 Church St. building in downtown St. Catharines. Formerly a Niagara Regional Police Service building, this vacant facility has reached the end of its life and will be demolished to reestablish and remediate the land.
What to expect
Work will typically take place Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Construction is expected to begin at the end of March 2026 and is scheduled to be completed by late August 2026.
During construction, you may notice minor dust and periodic noise. We do not expect a significant increase in traffic in the area.
Key tasks include:
- Preparing the site with temporary fencing and removal of interior debris
- Larger-scale demolition mainly in April and May 2026. Expect dust and noise during this time.
- Soil remediation and final preparation of the vacant land
Workers will be on site throughout spring and summer 2026 to help keep the project on schedule. The main streets that will be impacted are Church Street, Academy Street and Carlisle Street in downtown St. Catharines.
Vibration monitoring will take place throughout the demolition period. All work will be completed in accordance with the City of St. Catharines noise by-law. Traffic will be controlled in partnership with the City of St. Catharines.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this time.
