Environmental Assessment for Steele Street Sewage Pumping Station Relocation and West Port Colborne Gravity Main
All Niagara Region projects
About the project
Niagara Region is carrying out a Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment to study the possibility of building a new large sewer trunk and sewage pumping station in Port Colborne. This would help move wastewater more efficiently to the Seaway Wastewater Treatment Plant. The study will look at five sewer catchment areas west of the Welland Canal: Elm, Arena, Union, Omer and Steele.
The goal is to find a long-term solution that could allow the Region to:
- Retire several existing sewage pumping stations
- Eliminate the need for several future sewage pumping stations
- Eliminate sewer pumping station maintenance and sewer surcharge from station issues
