Telephone, hairdressing/barber services, dental care, foot care, in-room internet service and cable are available at an additional cost.


A range of recreation, leisure and social activities are offered at all our homes which cater to your individual needs and interests and help you keep physically, socially and intellectually active. Your family members are welcome to join you in participating.

  • News/discussion groups

Our Auxiliaries are also very active in planning social activities and fundraisers within our homes in addition to operating the gift/tuck shops.

Visiting volunteers from community groups may offer:

  • Palliative care visiting
  • Pet visits
  • Therapeutic touch

Ambulation programs, active exercises, stretching, bed exercise and one-to-one treatments by rehabilitation staff increase and maintain your independence and mobility. If rehabilitation, physio or occupational therapy is part of your care requirement, staff will work with a physiotherapist to carry out your treatment plan.

Respite Care

Clients requiring nursing services can secure a short-stay respite bed. Niagara Region has two beds at Linhaven in St. Catharines and two beds at D.H. Rapelje Lodge in Welland.

Beds can be booked through Community Care Access Centre by calling 1-866-790-4642 ext. 3515.

As a caregiver, respite provides you with a much needed break and peace of mind knowing that your loved one is well cared for in your absence.

  • respite care supports individuals still living at home
  • individuals must be medically and behaviourally stable
  • enhances individual's functional abilities and quality of life
  • medical care will continue to be the responsibility of the individual's attending physician, although the homes' medical director may become involved, as needed
  • upon completion of the respite stay, staff will assess the individual's need for transition back to community living and recommend supports, as needed
