Reconstruction of Bridge Street (Regional Road 43) and Victoria Avenue into a Roundabout (Phase 2, Stage 1), and Thorold Stone Road (Regional Road 57) Extension from Limit to Roundabout (Phase 2, Stage 2)
All Niagara Region projects

About the project

Niagara Region is extending Thorold Stone Road (Regional Road 57) where it currently ends at the Gale Centre entrance (Phase 1) to the Victoria Avenue and Bridge Street (Regional Road 43) intersection with a roundabout (Phase 2).

The extension will provide:

  • A key connection to the QEW
  • An improved east / west linkage to the City of Niagara Falls' downtown area and Niagara River Parkway
  • Economic growth and redevelopment of a significant brownfield for the City of Niagara Falls

With improved transportation connectivity and daily GO train service to Niagara Falls by 2023, there's an opportunity to leverage and enhance the land uses. This will ensure it's an attractive arrival point for commuters and visitors.

Niagara Region is working with the City of Niagara Falls to determine a vision for the GO Station area. This includes road, transit, public realm and active transportation options for the Bridge Street / GO Station area as identified in the approved Niagara Falls Transit Station Secondary Plan.

Construction of the roundabout is now complete. The extension of the Thorold Stone Road (Regional Road 57) project is targeted for construction commencement in late 2025 / early 2026, pending budget approvals.

Complete Streets

We'll integrate design elements that support the Complete Streets Design Guidelines for Niagara. The guidelines will focus on enhancing the functionality of boulevards and roadway safety.

The goal is to provide an innovative and creative solution that is:

  • Environmentally sustainable
  • Attracts growth on adjacent lands
  • Supports active transportation and other modes of mobility to help people of all ages travel throughout Niagara
