Reconstruction of Main Street East (Regional Road 81) between Durham Roundabout and Orchard Parkway - Four Phases
All Niagara Region projects

About the project

Main Street East (Regional Road 81) from Orchard Parkway to the Durham roundabout in Grimsby is a two-lane roadway serving east-west traffic. It provides access for residential, institutional and commercial uses. The existing road surface, drainage and structures are in poor condition and need reconstruction.

The design will include the urbanization of Main Street East (Regional Road 81) from Orchard Parkway to the Durham roundabout. Other improvements include, but are not limited to:

  • Adding a centre turn lane
  • A new right-turn lane at West Niagara Secondary School
  • Active transportation on both sides of the road (multi-use path and a sidewalk)
  • New landscaping
  • New curbs, gutters and storm sewers

This project will be constructed in four phases:

  • Phase 1 - from the Durham roundabout to Book Road
  • Phase 2 - from Book Road to Baker Road
  • Phase 3 - from Baker Road to Nelles Road
  • Phase 4 - from Nelles Road to Orchard Parkway

Construction funding for Phases 2 to 4 is expected beyond 2035.
