Class Environmental Assessment Study - Niagara Falls Water Treatment Plant - Plant 1 Settling Tank Rehabilitation City of Niagara Falls

Background

Niagara Region, through its consultant, Cole Engineering Group Ltd., has initiated a Class Environmental Assessment to identify suitable alternatives for the rehabilitation of the Niagara Falls Water Treatment Plant Settling Tank in Plant 1. The plant is located at 3599 Macklem Street in the City of Niagara Falls and services the City of Niagara Falls and parts of the City of Thorold and Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

During the last upgrade, it was noted that structural improvements would be required to retain the integrity of the roof of the settling tank in Plant 1. As part of the preliminary design assignment, an assessment of the tank was undertaken and it was determined that rehabilitation was required to extend the life of the structure.

The Process

Establishment of the project is being conducted in accordance with the approved requirements of Schedule 'A+', as defined in the Municipal Engineers Association Class Environmental Assessment document (2007). Schedule 'A+' projects are pre-approved. This notice satisfies the Class EA process requiring public notification before proceeding with the proposed works.
