NIAGARA REGION, February 9, 2010 - With a provincial funding commitment in hand, Niagara Region will proceed as quickly as possible with a $7.9 million project to redevelop Deer Park Villa, its 39-bed, long-term care facility in Grimsby.
The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is committing approximately $3.2 million toward the project.
"The redevelopment of Deer Park Villa will bring the facility in line with the Region's other recently constructed long-term care homes," said Niagara Region Chairman Peter Partington. "The facility improvements will enhance the quality of life for residents of the home, and enable future expansion to meet the anticipated demand for long-term care spaces in West Niagara."
The redevelopment project will see the replacement of the more than 20-year old facility with a new long-term care home with:
"All long-term care home residents should have access to modern facilities that offer the very best and latest features," said St. Catharines MPP Jim Bradley. "This redevelopment of Deer Park Villa's older long-term care beds will provide residents in Grimsby with the amenities they need for an improved, quality standard of living."
"Niagara families deserve peace of mind that their loved ones are receiving the best possible care," said Tim Hudak, MPP for Niagara West - Glanbrook. "I look forward to continuing to work with the staff and volunteers at Deer Park to ensure that families can always count on high-quality services close to home."
Deer Park Villa was constructed in 1987 as a nursing home by the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Niagara Region acquired the facility in 2003. The redevelopment will complement the presence of a newly built hospice, the newly redeveloped Deer Park Suites supportive housing, and the soon-to-be redeveloped hospital - all co-located on one site in Grimsby.
Niagara Region operates eight long-term care homes, providing 24-hour accommodation and services to more than 950 residents.
