In order to meet the Region's waste diversion target of 65% by 2012, a number of changes to waste management services are being considered for implementation in the next collection services contract. The primary purpose of the session is to present the benefits associated with two key collection options:
In addition to these collection service options, the meeting will address the impact of the province's proposed shift to Extended Producer Responsibility for a wide range of products and packaging. Extended Producer Responsibility is expected to help the Region meet the 65% diversion target. Long-term waste disposal planning will also be addressed.
The Committee of the Whole meeting will be held in Council Chambers at 2201 St. David's Road, Thorold on March 11, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.
