Nutrition and Stress
Nutrition affects health, and poor nutrition can be the direct cause of a variety of health problems:
- Caffeine products (coffee, tea, chocolate, and soda pop) can make coping with stress more difficult
- If caffeine products are consumed too often, it can produce anxiety, irritability, and an inability to concentrate
- Too much or too little sugar intake has similar effects
- Maintaining a well-balanced diet can help children deal with stress
- Follow Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating (Note: Proper daily food intake varies between age groups)
- Foods available during snack time or at lunch in schools should be monitored so they do not contribute to stress
