You're the Chef Volunteer Training Sessions

A Cooking Program for Youth

You're the Chef is a program designed to help youth, ages 10-14, build the skills and confidence necessary to prepare healthy and tasty recipes emphasizing vegetables and fruit.

The program consists of three to six, one-hour cooking sessions that a school or agency can hold at any time of the year. The cost of the food and supplies are the responsibility of the school or agency.

The estimated cost to run three sessions (for 16 students) is $80. Volunteers will be provided with detailed shopping lists and a leader's manual. It is the volunteer's responsibility to do the shopping, set up, and clean up.

School and Agency Participation

To participate, a volunteer must be recruited from the school community or agency (parent, teacher, grandparent, etc.) to lead the sessions and attend a three and a half hour training session.

First-time volunteers must attend a training session held at Niagara Region Headquarters in Thorold. The next available training session will take place Oct. 18, 2010 12:30 - 4 p.m. or Oct. 18, 2010 5 - 8:30 p.m.
