Agriculture is an important component of Niagara's past, present and future. Our land base and location allow a wide variety of agricultural products to be grown and raised in Niagara for consumption and export to larger centres. Beyond the substantial economic impacts the agricultural industry has on the Niagara economy, agriculture presents a picturesque landscape for residents and visitors alike to behold and enjoy. The many festivals, events and attractions that are based on agricultural products and operations also lend credence to the importance of the industry to the economic, social and historical nature of Niagara.
Agricultural planning involves balancing the protection of our agricultural and natural environmental resources with development pressures. Agricultural policies in the Regional Policy Plan, significant studies, information reports and an advisory committee provide insight into how our agricultural land will be preserved for the enjoyment of future generations.
