When a higher-than-average number of people who live and work in a health care facility are sick with similar symptoms. Visitors entering may be at risk of getting sick or taking the illness home to others.

Precautions taken during an outbreak

For visitation in long-term care homes, retirement homes or hospitals, please follow-up with the specific health care facility for their visitation recommendations during outbreaks.

Ministry of Health guidance documents have been produced for a number of health sectors related to COVID-19. The documents are updated by the Ministry of Health as necessary.

Prevent the spread of infection

Niagara Region Public Health works with facilities and provide infection prevention and control best practices to manage outbreaks.
