Ontario Child Benefit

The Ontario Child Benefit offers financial assistance for low-income families to help you with the cost of raising your child(ren). Your eligibility is based on the number of children in your family (under age 18) and your family net income. You may be eligible for the Ontario Child Benefit even if you are employed.

You may be eligible if you:

  • have a child under 18 years old and are a low-income family
  • and your spouse or common-law partner have filed your income tax return
  • are registered for the federal Canada Child Tax Benefit
  • are a resident of Ontario

How to receive the benefit

No application form is needed. The Canada Revenue Agency will automatically review your eligibility once your income tax returns from the previous year are assessed and you have registered for the Canada Child Tax Benefit.

If you are eligible, the Ontario Child Benefit is included with Canada Child Tax Benefit and the National Child Benefit Supplement monthly payments.
