Project: Peer Support in the ED for People Experiencing Homelessness Peer support workers with lived experience will provide non-clinical and referral assistance to homeless individuals. Project: Fresh Paint This social enterprise project provides at-risk youth opportunities to work with experienced contractors to complete unit turnover preparation for Niagara Regional Housing. Project: Income Matters Income Matters helps people experiencing poverty and homelessness improve their financial situation by providing help for them to access finances, budgeting, tax filing, and applications to eligible benefits and credits. This is increasingly critical as government shifts to modernizing to digital systems, creating additional barriers for some people. |

John Howard Society of Niagara Project: Strengthening Families for the Future This Canadian best practice project supports families and children of all ages who may be at risk for mental health issues and substance use. The program includes individual sessions (parent, teen, children and child care) followed by family sessions. Sessions include role play and interactive activities to promote problem solving and communication skills. Families learn healthy strategies and work on improving the family dynamic. |
Project: Strengthening Families for the Future The Niagara Furniture Bank warehouse is used as a "classroom" for clients of Start Me Up Niagara. The training options include warehouse logistics, warehouse maintenance, inventory, janitorial, fleet maintenance, woodworking repair and reception / scheduling. The training is supported by an onsite job developer provided by the Start Me Up Niagara employment centre. |

Project: Art Me Uprising - SMUN Community Arts Hub Art Me Uprising - SMUN Community Arts Hub provides opportunities by and for marginalized people in visual arts, drama, poetry, music, film production, and storytelling. Based in the Queenston neighbourhood, participants are provided with artistic tools and resources and an outlet to use their creativity to tell stories about their lived reality. Project: Income Matters Community Collaborative Income Matters helps participants gain / re-gain the confidence and skills needed to successfully manage their finances through income tax filings, access to benefits and tax credits, help with appointments, budgeting, and improved relationships with creditable banks and lenders. |

The objective of this project is to provide food handling and processing skills training for Start Me Up Niagara clients in a commercial setting. We are partnering with two businesses in Niagara to accomplish this goal - Wrap It Up Raw (woman-owned small business that produces raw and vegan foods) and WP Warehousing (agri-food logistics, packaging and shipping company). This will allow our gardens to convert produce into a variety of processed products for year-round sale and use. |
Grantham Teen Active Living This program will provide youth from the Old Pine Trail subsidized housing complex and the surrounding Grantham neighbourhood the opportunity to participate in field trips promoting active living such as beach volleyball, snowshoeing, and high ropes. Such excursions are often unattainable to low-income families due to cost and transportation. Field trips will be planned, implemented and evaluated by neighbourhood youth. Participants will gain the common experience of their more affluent peers. |
