Learning, Earning and Parenting Program

Teen Mom with BabyAs a young parent in receipt of social assistance, LEAP can help you:

  • finish high school
  • develop your parenting skills
  • develop your employment related skills to help you gain employment and become financially independent


  • mandatory if you are aged 16 and 17, voluntary if you are aged 18 to 25
  • have not completed high school
  • are an Ontario Works participant or are part of a benefit unit receiving financial assistance under Ontario Works

LEAP Components

There are three components of the program:


  • helps you return to school either in a traditional high school setting or in an alternative education program to complete your high school diploma


  • provides you with access to all Ontario Works' employment supports to help you develop your employment skills and move from school to work


  • promotes the healthy development of your child by enhancing your parenting skills to provide the best start in life for your child

Child Care and Supports

  • subsidized child care
  • access to funded transportation
  • employment
  • counselling
  • tutoring
  • school supplies and clothing
  • educational trips
  • graduation fees
  • fees for recreational activities


  • bursary will be presented to you upon successful completion of the program which may be used for your own post-secondary education or training or may be held in trust for your child's education
