About the project

The Laurie Avenue Sewage Pumping Station is owned and run by Niagara Region and is located at 3391 Laurie Ave. in Lincoln. It services an area of approximately 103 hectares for nearby residents and businesses.

The station was constructed in 1979. It had minor upgrades in 2012 to the electrical, instrumentation and communication systems. The key mechanical components have been in service for over 40 years and are past their service life. This station needs a capacity upgrade to support the Prudhommes Landing development.

Construction will include a new 520 metre long forcemain. This will run from the pumping station, along Laurie Avenue and Victoria Avenue North, up to North Service Road.

The scope of work includes:

• Demolishing the existing building and installing a new covered shelter
• Underground infrastructure replacement
• Pump and process piping and equipment replacement
• A new outdoor natural gas generator
• Electrical, instrumentation and communication upgrades
• Site work improvements
• 520 metres of new forcemain
• Culvert relining at Laurie Avenue Bridge

Project update

The new sewage pumping station and new sanitary forcemain are in operation. Remaining work includes the final topcoat of asphalt along the new forcemain and installing a new generator at the station.

The construction schedule is being coordinated with the Town of Lincoln as they finish the Prudhommes Watermain Upgrade Project.

Project updates will be shared with stakeholders and the public online and by mail.

Construction information

• Construction duration

  Construction began in spring 2025 and the new infrastructure was placed into operation at the end of 2025. Some remaining work at the station will be completed in February 2026. The final topcoat of asphalt will be installed in spring 2026 when warmer temperatures allow.

  Asphalt paving is expected to cause some traffic impacts. The public should follow traffic control directions.

• Service interruptions to water, wastewater or power and gas supply

  If service interruptions are needed, we will notify affected properties at least 48 hours before any planned interruptions.

• Access to homes or businesses during construction

  There will be access to homes and businesses along the roadway. At times, construction may block driveways for a short period. Residents will be notified of this in advance and accommodations can be arranged as needed. If you have any concerns about not having access during construction, contact the project team.

• Walking through the construction site

  The public can walk through the construction area but it's recommended to reduce any non-essential activities in the construction area. Use extra caution when entering the area, read and obey all warning signs, avoid heavy equipment and stay visible to all workers and vehicles.

• Garbage and recycling collection during construction

  There will be no changes to garbage, recycling and organics collection during construction. If needed, the contractor will carry bins to a more accessible location and return once emptied. Residents should label their bins to ensure they are not misplaced.

• Access to Victoria Shores Park on Laurie Avenue

  Access to the park will remain open throughout most of the construction, although there may be limited access for a short duration.
