Updates in waste collection for Lincoln and West Lincoln. Canadian Waste Management Inc. is committed to refining their curbside collection service.
The first week of January saw Canadian Waste Management Inc. (CWMI) take over the collection of curbside garbage, recycling, and organics collection for Lincoln and West Lincoln. The first week of collection brought some challenges that could not have been anticipated. After the first week of collection, CWMI recognized the need for improvement and as a result, they have implemented a new routing plan. Additionally CWMI secured additional trucks which will provide a sustainable contingency plan while they work through equipment malfunctions, and new staff become more familiar with the routes. This, along with hiring additional staff, will ensure a more timely collection moving forward.
All routes in Lincoln and West Lincoln for curbside garbage, recycling, and organics collection, with the exception of front-end bin collection, will be executed by CWMI moving forward. Niagara Region and Emterra have agreed to remove all routes in Lincoln and West Lincoln to allow Emterra to shift the resources currently serving these routes to other areas of the region.
CWMI has a 17-year record of providing multi-regional waste services and the Region is excited to have them serving our community. These changes do not affect the Region’s plan to start a new contract for waste collection by 2021.
Collection days will remain the same but residents may see a change in the time of day their material is collected therefore, it is essential that all material be at the curb by 7 a.m. on resident’s regular collection day. In addition, due to the collection methodology being utilized by CWM, Blue Box material (cans, bottles, and plastic packaging etc.) may be collected at different time than Grey Box material (newspaper, cardboard, bundled plastic bags and outer-wrap etc.) as well as garbage maybe collected with a different truck than Green Bin material.
Other changes of note:
"Providing timely waste collection for the residents of Niagara is one of our top priorities. Although we have seen some improvements, the Region continues to work with both CWMI and Emterra to ensure satisfactory service delivery."
~ Jim Bradley, Regional Chair
"We will continue to make adjustments as we develop a better understanding of the Town of Lincoln and Township of West Lincoln. We would like to apologize for the delays and look forward to servicing the region and the town and township in an efficient and professional manner."
~ Matthew Dean, CWMI President & CEO
