Niagara Region awards contract for work on new civic park

Niagara Region is pleased to announce that Adesso Design Inc. of Hamilton, Ont., has been chosen to design and build a new Civic Park at Niagara Region headquarters.

On May 1, 2018, Region staff awarded the contract for the detailed landscape architectural design and construction administration of the new Niagara Region Civic Park (International Plaza) following a competitive procurement process.

The initiative builds on the Council-endorsed Brock District Plan, Niagara Regional Headquarters Campus Master Plan and other supporting documents, and sets out to completely reimagine the existing area surrounding Niagara’s administrative headquarters into a more modern, inclusive and pedestrian friendly space.

Work will begin immediately on the design of the new civic park and includes the detailed design and tendering of Phase 1 and 2 of the Niagara Regional Headquarters Campus Master Plan.

The project contains the five key elements of the Civic Park including the Front Lawn, International Plaza, Courtyard, Gardens of the Municipalities, and the Orchard Plaza.

The project design phase is scheduled from May to September 2018, with construction expected to begin in late fall of this year.

Adesso Design Inc. has completed similar work for the City of Hamilton, Brock University, and a number of other municipalities and institutions.
