Niagara Children’s Water Festival - Encouraging children to become more environmentally aware

The 2018 Niagara Children’s Water Festival starts May 8 and runs from May 8 – 11. In its sixteenth year, the annual Niagara Children’s Water Festival provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about the importance of water by participating in exciting hands-on activities.

The focus of the festival is to involve and teach elementary students about the importance of water conservation, protection, technology, and ecology. The Niagara Children's Water Festival program emphasizes several key areas: understanding the water cycle, using water wisely, protecting our water supply, examining the relationship between water and technology, fostering a respect towards the environment, and celebrating the role of water in the ecosystem.

The Niagara Children’s Water Festival is sponsored by Niagara Region, the City of St. Catharines, the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority, and Ontario Power Generation. It takes place at the Ball’s Falls Conservation Area and is open to grades 3 and 4 students in Niagara.

Quotes

"Niagara Region is pleased to partner in the 2018 Children’s Water Festival. This program provides children with the opportunity to learn about Niagara’s heritage and how water is an essential resource that should be valued and protected. In 2018, we’re excited that more than 3500 children will spend a day outdoors learning about the important role water plays in our daily lives. "
~ Alan Caslin, Niagara Regional Chair
"The NPCA is thrilled to be a part of this important program. Water is essential to everything we are and do; teaching our youth about its importance is critical in Niagara, since we have one of the most complex watersheds in Ontario. Ball’s Falls Conservation Area is the perfect location to demonstrate the wonder and power of water and lay that foundation of knowledge in our children about our natural environment."
~ Sandy Annunziata, NPCA Board Chair
