Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play a vital role
in the delivery of our programs
in the community

All volunteer applications are reviewed with consideration of current volunteer opportunities. Depending on the position applied for, candidates may be required to complete a police check and / or participate in an interview.

Niagara Region Public Health would like to thank you for your expressed interested in volunteering with us.

Current Volunteer Positions

  • Community Outreach Lead

    As the community outreach lead volunteer, you will increase public awareness and knowledge on a variety of health topics by attending community events across Niagara. You will be:

    • A leader to the community outreach volunteers
    • Responsible for the set up and take down of the community outreach booth
    • A point of contact at event locations for volunteers and the general public
    • Working closely with student coordinators to deliver sun safety presentations and engage children at day camps around the topic of sun safety

    Outcomes of this role may include:

    • Increase awareness and share knowledge on various health topics
    • Gain experience in health promotion and community engagement
    • Make a positive impact on the health of Niagara residents and visitors
    • Meet people and have fun

    Qualifications

    • Access to a vehicle with proper insurance and sufficient space for transporting materials to and from event locations
    • Previous volunteer experience
    • Experience in a leadership role
    • Interest in health promotion / learning about various Public Health topics
    • Comfortable engaging members of the public of all ages to share key messages
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to read and speak fluent English
    • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
    • Be punctual and committed to attending events
    • Able to travel to event locations across Niagara; must provide your own transportation
    • Able to work as part of a team
    • Available to volunteer May to end of August 2019

    A contribution of 20 total hours from May to August 2019 is required.

    Mandatory Training

    Attendance at in-person training sessions is mandatory:

    • May 7 or May 15 from 5 to 8 p.m.
    • One hour training session with student coordinators and Public Health staff in June
