You're the Chef is a food literacy program designed to help develop the skills and confidence necessary for children (aged 10 years and up), youth and adults to prepare healthy and tasty recipes emphasizing vegetables and fruit.
Along with recipe preparation, participants will learn and practice basic kitchen safety, food safety, cooking techniques (such as how to use a knife properly) and other valuable food literacy skills.
You're the Chef is a train-the-trainer program. Interested individuals from schools and community agencies are invited to attend a half day leader training session offered a few times per year by Registered Dietitians from Niagara Region Public Health. Trained leaders will receive the necessary tools, resources and support to run a full program in their particular setting.
The cost of leader training is free, however, the cost of food and supplies are the responsibility of the school or agency.
All first-time leaders must attend a leader training session and previously trained leaders are encouraged to attend refresher training every few years.
Training may be held at the Niagara Region Public Health office in Thorold (across the road from Brock University) or at a location in the community.
Select an individual (staff or volunteer) to attend a half-day training session to become a You're the Chef leader.
Trained leaders will receive access to a site with step-by-step instructions on how to run a successful program.
There are no workshops planned at this time. Check back for the next training session.
