Chancroid is a rare sexually transmitted infection. It is caused by bacteria that can only be transmitted through unprotected sex with an individual who has an ulcer caused by chancroid.
Chancroid causes lesions on the genitalia that eventually turn into ulcers. In males, lesions form on the penis, while in females they usually form on the external genitalia.
