Teen moms talk about raising a baby while in high school

Teen pregnancy rates in Niagara continue to be higher than the provincial average.

Two options are available for teachers and community groups in Niagara region.

Both share personal experiences and challenges young moms face when raising children and attempting to complete school.

  • Presentations at your School
    A small group of teen moms are able to provide this live and interactive presentation in your classroom or at a school assembly, when available.

  • Resources and Facilitator's Guide
    A video documentary highlighting parts of the presentation is also available, accompanied by a facilitator's guide and student workbooks.

Topics Covered

  • Understanding the loss of relationships that young parents face
  • Recognizing the amount of work and dedication it takes to be a successful young parent
  • Realizing the financial difficulty associated with parenting at a young age
  • Being aware of the high pregnancy rates in Niagara
  • Considering if students would be able to reach their goals if they became young parents

Teachers have the option to borrow a pregnancy belly (to simulate being pregnant) and a computerized baby (that will cry and will demonstrate how to properly handle an infant).
