Young Adult Peer Leader Student Job SummaryYoung Adult Peer Leader - Starts August 2019 to approximately May 2020. This positionreports to Manager Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention General Description of WorkThe student will work closely with Youth Engagement Specialists, Health Promoters, community youth-service providers and youth ages 12-18 within the Niagara region. The purpose of this position is to facilitate planning and implementation of youth health promotion activities. The Young Adult Peer Leader will work with assigned community groups to assist them in developing health promotion event or campaign. Duties and Responsibilities Plan, implement and evaluate youth-led, community based health promotion activities and events Schedule and attend weekly meetings with youth and adults at community organizations to support and build relationships Work with internal staff and community partners to identify, develop and implement health promotion activities Understanding and the ability to apply health promotion strategies and youth engagement principles with their assigned community organization Qualifications Must be enrolled at a post-secondary institution Must have a Police Clearance that allows for working with vulnerable populations Ability to travel in a timely manner to locations away from assigned office in order to carry out assigned duties Must possess a valid driver's license, provide own transportation for assignments and travel throughout the Niagara Region Skills/Assets Exhibits strong interpersonal skills Self-directed and self-motivated Strong understanding of health inequities Self-confident, self-assured, and an outgoing personality Demonstrates leadership qualities Strong communication skills Good time-management skills Demonstrates individual and group problem solving skills Ability to grasp and understand concepts related to health promotion and youth engagement principles Exhibits high level of passion for working with youth and in promoting health These positions will be 6-10 hours per week with evenings and some weekend work required
