Planning Advisory Committee - Volunteer Opportunity

Niagara Region is looking for eight members of the public to participate on a new Planning Advisory Committee to provide input into our new Official Plan and help shape Niagara's growth and prosperity.

The new Official Plan is a policy document that will play a key role in how Niagara grows and prospers. It will guide where and how municipalities grow, and address:

  • Sustainable development
  • Urban design
  • Opportunities for employment
  • Transportation network and infrastructure
  • Transit
  • Climate change
  • Protection of significant environmental systems and features

Key Information

The Planning Advisory Committee will provide advice to Regional Council and staff regarding the development of the new Official Plan. Committee members will play a leadership role in reviewing information and commenting on special projects related to the new Official Plan.

  • Reporting to: Regional Planning staff
  • Term of membership: Two years; up to four committee members can serve one consecutive term
  • Meetings: Held in the evening, approximately once a month and generally not longer than two hours

Preference will be given to applicants who have expert knowledge or experience as a:

  • Policy and program researcher, consultant or officer
  • Architect, urban planner or land surveyor
  • Contractor or supervisor, agriculture and related operations and services
  • University professor or college instructor
  • Developer or home builder

Members cannot be existing local municipal, regional or provincial council members or staff.
