of Niagara's 450,000 residents
The Medical division consists of the offices of the Medical Officer of Health and Associate Medical Officers of Health. As part of a regional government structure, the Medical Officer also serves as the Commissioner of Public Health. The Associate Medical Officers of Health serve as superintendents of the department programs.
The medical division:
- Is accountable for the general health and well-being of Niagara's residents
- Acts as the public voice at a local, provincial, and federal level for the health needs of our community
- Identifies potential health risks and coordinates a local response
- Interprets and acts upon emerging information about potential threats to the health of the community
The division has a solid foundation in scientific, medical, and clinical fields, as well as risk management and communication skills.
