Councillor Laura Ip is serving her first term on regional council.
Prior to being elected to regional council in 2018, she was a councillor for the City of St. Catharines during the 2010 to 2014 term. Before that, she worked in public and government relations for a local firm, working on several projects for various area municipalities and for Niagara Region. Laura also worked for two mayors and the city manager at the City of Welland.
Presently, Councillor Ip works in the non-profit sector and operates a freelance practice where she specializes in research, writing, editing and administration. Her work experience includes having worked in public, private, and non-profit organizations focusing on communications, strategic planning, leadership, teaching, fundraising and volunteer development.

Additionally, Councillor Ip founded and operates Underdogs Boxing Club, a volunteer-run non-profit with recreational boxing programs for everyone, as well as a program for survivors of violence.
