2015 Operating Budget Highlights

The 2015 tax supported operating budget of $321.9 million maintains all current programs and services and provides funding for new and enhanced services that will support economic prosperity, including:

  • $2.7 M
    Inter-municipal Transit
    Includes new transit routes to connect GO transit stops along the QEW
  • $2.3 M
    Economic Development Initiatives
    Funding for Niagara's Economic Action Plan that will support business growth and job creation
  • $2.2 M
    Business Incentives
    Funding tax grants for new and existing industrial and commercial businesses
  • $1.7 M
    Employment Supports and Activities
    Funding that will enable vulnerable residents to achieve independence through sustainable employment

Additional funding from the 2015 operating budget will support:

  • GO Transit Planning
    Planning for GO transit stations in St. Catharines, Grimsby, Niagara Falls and Beamsville
  • Childcare
    Ongoing funding to ensure the availability of high-quality, subsidized options for working parents
  • Emergency Medical and Community Services
    Increased investments in frontline staff to enable a healthy and strong Niagara

2015 Capital Budget Highlights

Regional Council also approved a capital budget of $155.7 million to support the following significant infrastructure projects in 2015:

  • $56 M
    Water and Wastewater
    Includes upgrades to the Welland Wastewater Treatment Plant, Port Colborne Water Treatment Plant and pump station improvements
  • $53.6 M
    Includes funding for the Central Avenue Bridge replacement and road resurfacing
  • $10 M
    Court Facilities Renewal Project
    Funding to establish new accommodations for Provincial Offences courthouses in Niagara
