Why this measurement is important

Residential hazardous waste products cause an environmental impact, if improperly disposed of in the garbage/ landfill stream.

Niagara Region’s residential hazardous waste depot program contributes towards increasing Niagara waste diversion rate, and ensuring that these materials are properly disposed of.

The important benefit of this indicator is to measure the overall effectiveness of Niagara Region’s residential hazardous waste diversion program.

As overseen by Public Works, Waste Management.

Residential hazardous waste is weighed at the depot facilities (see 'More information' section).

Progress and advancements

2022 key performance indicator target is 1,100 tonnes of residential hazardous waste diverted from disposal.
