Community Dashboard: Other Criminal Code violations
Rationale and analysis
How we measure this data
As reported by Statistics Canada with input/ oversight from the Niagara Regional Police Service.
Progress and advancements
Due to COVID-19, 2020 and 2021 were an unprecedented years where businesses were closed and people stayed home. This resulted in a significant reduction in other criminal code violations due to reduced border crossings leading to fewer counterfeit U.S. dollars exchanged, seizures (drugs and guns), et cetera. In 2022, we are now seeing an increase.
Statistics Canada 2021 data (Table: 35-10-0177-01) shows Niagara's total other Criminal Code violations per 100,000 population is 599.54, which is higher than Ontario (557.57) and lower than Canada overall (988.95), for the same period.
