Why this measurement is important
Life expectancy at birth is one of the most frequently-used health status indicators. Gains in life expectancy at birth can be attributed to a number of factors, including rising living standards, improved lifestyle and better education as well as greater access to quality health services.
How we measure this data
Life expectancy for females at birth calculated using a three-year average, as reported by Statistics Canada.
Progress and advancements
Niagara 2015 to 2017 female life expectancy at birth of 83.5 years was lower than the Ontario by Health Unit average of 84.6 years and the national average of 84.1 years.
