Why this measurement is important
Wastewater volumes are impacted by customer usage, precipitation volumes, climate and seasonal changes (i.e. spring run-off).
How we measure this data
As overseen by Public Works, Water and Wastewater.
Measured using wastewater treatment plant effluent flow meters. Each facility’s data is collected and then totaled to provide the total treated volume at the subject facility.
The facility volumes are then combined to generate a total treated wastewater volume.
About this indicator
This indicator measures the total megalitres (ML) of wastewater treated across all of the Region’s wastewater treatment facilities over a 12-month period.
Facilities include the Niagara Falls, Anger Avenue, Queenston, Welland, Crystal Beach, Seaway, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Baker Road, Port Weller and Port Dalhousie wastewater treatment plants as well as the Stevensville/Douglastown Lagoon.
