Eligibility for Niagara Specialized Transit

Persons wishing to use specialized transit must meet the following criteria:

  • Travelling from one municipality to another municipality

  • Physically unable to board a conventional transit vehicle, or walk a distance of 175 metres (approximately 600 feet).

  • Using the service for one of the following:

    • Medical Appointments
      An appointment with a medical/health practitioner or institution providing medical services. The service must be licensed and/or funded by the Province of Ontario.

    • Employment
      Travelling to the same place of employment in a different municipality at least 3 times per week. Remuneration must be received for work.

    • Educational Purposes

      • Elementary/Secondary School
        A course to fulfill the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, the Secondary Graduation Diploma or the Secondary School Honour Graduation Diploma.

      • College/University
        A program with a minimum of 3 consecutive weeks, with at least 10 hours per week in an institution designated by the Lieutenant Governor in Council

      • Qualified Institution
        An institution designated by the Lieutenant Governor in Council or certified by the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development to be an educational institution

Elderly persons or dialysis patients are not automatically eligible for this specialized service. Only persons who meet the above criteria are eligible for this service.

Oxygen Equipment

At this time, we are not equipped to accommodate individuals who require oxygen equipment to be brought with them.
