J.R. Stork Bridge on Martindale Road will remain closed while reconstruction work is undertaken

NIAGARA REGION - The J.R. Stork Bridge along Martindale Road was closed on Friday, May 5 due to heavy rains and flooding conditions causing significant damage to the embankment on the southwest approach to the bridge.

In addition to the bridge approaches, the water main adjacent to bridge has also been damaged and will remain offline until repairs can be made.  Regional staff is currently in the process of reconnecting the water main in a temporary condition until a permanent repair can be made.  Please note that during this time there is not expected to be any service disruptions as a result of the damaged water main.

It is anticipated that Martindale Road at the bridge will remain closed for a number of months while reconstruction activities take place.  As options for the reconstruction of the bridge approaches are developed more detailed timelines will be established.

Local residents and emergency services will have access up to the limits of the bridge but will not have access across the structure.

A detour route will be posted along Regional Road 87 (Lakeshore Road West), Regional Road 34 (Seventh Street) and Regional Road 40 (South Service Road).

Any inquiries concerning this closure may be directed to Regional Dispatch at 905-980-3690.
