Scroll over this young woman to learn the benefits of having a healthy lifestyle.

Females Using Energy for Life (F.U.E.L.) is run in the school by an advisory committee made up of Youth Advisors, teacher advisors and the school nurse.

In order for F.U.E.L. to run successfully, it is important that each person on the Advisory Committee understands her role.

F.U.E.L. Youth Advisors:

Being a Youth Advisor is perfect for those students who have always wanted to be a part of a council, team, or group. Being a Youth Advisor will allow students to really make a difference in their school and will help them learn valuable communication and organizational skills.

Below are examples of some potential Youth Advisors responsibilities:

  • Promoting F.U.E.L. physical activity sessions and events through announcements, posters, newsletters etc.
  • Booking instructors for physical activity sessions
  • Booking locations for physical activity sessions and events
  • Creating a F.U.E.L. message board and updating it on a regular basis
  • Applying for school grants to get money to use for the program

F.U.E.L. Teacher Advisors:

Just like a team coach, the Teacher Advisor is responsible for overseeing the F.U.E.L. program. Below are some examples of Teacher Advisor responsibilities:

  • To be a link between the Youth Advisors and the school administration and Public Health
  • Provide feedback and input to Youth Advisors as to the realistic application of their activity ideas
  • Work with other staff to bring about changes in their school that will support the girls' activities
  • Motivate and encourage the Youth Advisors
  • Provide supervision and input at regular Advisory Committee meetings
  • To assist Youth Advisors where needed in booking locations for physical activity sessions
  • To assist Youth Advisors where needed in contacting necessary instructors in the community to run a physical activity session
  • To be a positive mentor and a leader who the girls can trust

Public Health Nurse:

The Public Health Nurse acts as a support to the Advisory Committee. The Public Health Nurse will provide assistance in the following ways:

  • Provide support and/or direction to the Advisory Committee in planning and rolling out the F.U.E.L. program in the school.
  • Provide necessary health teaching through "girl talk sessions" where needed/requested.
  • Be the liaison between the Advisory Committee and Public Health.
