Climate Change in the Niagara Region

Our climate change program looks at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing the risks and maximizing the benefits from anticipated climate change.

Five Milestones of Climate Change

Niagara Region has committed to five milestones to guide how we reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

These milestones are part of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection Program.

Emission Inventories One

Completed in 2010 - A greenhouse gas emissions inventory for the baseline year of 2006. This was done for our corporate and community emissions.

Completed in 2013 - Community and corporate action plans, including emission reduction targets.

Developed by members of the Niagara community through a facilitated engagement process. It includes two actions that will be implemented by action teams created through the planning process and a variety of other ongoing actions, and potential new actions.
